About the Kickstart scheme
On the 2nd September the government announced a new Kickstart Scheme, a £2 billion fund to create hundreds of thousands of high quality 6-month work placements aimed at those aged 16 to 24 who are on Universal Credit and are deemed to be at risk of long term unemployment.
The Kickstart scheme is subsidised by the Government, with the Government paying 100 percent of the age-relevant national minimum wage, national insurance and pension contributions, provided young people aged 16-24 are given quality positions with a minimum 25 hours a week. Employers are provided with £1,500 grant per Kickstarter to cover starting costs.

How Kickstart scheme works for employers
Large corporations with 30 or more vancancies can apply directly, SMEs with fewer than 30 vacancies must pool together and use a representative.
As part of the scheme Employers MUST provide training to help the Kickstarters find long term permanent work. Each application should include how you will help the participants to develop their skills and experience, including:
support to look for long-term work, including career advice and setting goals
support with CV and interview preparations

Having what is far from a conventional CV having set-up my own business and being self-employed for a number of years, Steve was able to identify the value I could add to a role in an industry I had no experience in. Thanks to Steve taking the time to meet with me, he identified my potential for a role, that on paper most recruiters would have not bothered. I am now working in a great company in a senior position and I have a lot to thank Steve for in regards to that!

I contacted Steve when my partner was at a sticky stage in his career with little confidence. Steve assisted him in writing up a great CV , gave him tips and stayed in contact throughout his job search. My partner has now accepted an offer for a new role and I definitely think the new CV had a huge part in helping him in this process- thanks Steve!
